White Lies

When everything goes wrong, And the nights seem dreary and long, I remember your words from when we were ten years, The promises you made as you gently brushed my tears. You said, "We will always be together, And our friendship will last forever." Now all that's left is broken ties. Your promises were just white lies. It was dusk when we went our separate ways, Yet our hearts believed we'd remain for the next many days - A belief that never say the light of truth, A belief that was born from the naivety of youth. For ever since we have just grown apart, Though love for you still resides in my heart. And even now when I feel down or sad, I simply recall the fun we had, The places we would visit and the foods we would eat, Now tarnished memories that have turned bittersweet. It's like a shadow over the joy and laugh, It's the shadow of your words that weren't enough -  Words that can no longer heal the broken tie...

When Love Lost to Ego

As the stars begin to die, Razed by the sun’s scorching light, The tears threaten to cry, For the passing of the night – The night during which love was free, Hope was allowed to dream. We were together, you and me, But now it’s just a silent scream – A scream for the promises that broke, For the lies painted white. It was the fire we stroke, That robbed us of the joy of the night. The fire was fuelled by ego, The tears of love stood no chance, And our friendship had to go, As it lost to the death-fires’ dance. But though stars are reborn, Whenever the moon’s light does shine, Our friendship is dead and torn, Because ‘ours’ lost to ‘mine’.
